Super Bowl Party Ideas + HM #168

January 25, 2018 by VintageMama 8 Comments

score a touchdown at your Super Bowl Party with these awesome ideas

I guess I have to admit it . . . I’m just not much of a party girl. I accept the fact that I’m pretty boring, but there’s really nothing I can do about it. I was like this even when I was a teenager. On Friday nights when all the other kids were out partying, I was at home reading a book. Or sewing. Or something equally mundane. I’m much more of a “stay-at-home” girl and do the laundry. Or watch a movie, or vacuum the living room. So when this week’s blog post topic rolled around, #SuperBowlPartyIdeas for the Home Matters Linky Party #168, I was kind of at a loss. But I did find a few things that looked like fun (if I ever did decide to have a party!), but also things that just looked like good ideas even if we just stay at home on Super Bowl Game Day.

Besides the fact that we don’t even really like football, I just feel like a complete loser this week. But I’ll do my best to share a few good ideas just in case you are a party girl . . . but if you aren’t a party girl, just know you are not alone. I hope you’ll join us this week for the #HomeMattersParty even if you aren’t going to a Super Bowl Party or have one at your house. We’ll have fun anyway!  #SuperBowlPartyIdeas #HomeMattersParty

Loaded Nachos

from Country Living

It wouldn’t take a party for my family to LOVE these loaded nachos from Country Living! But I can certainly see why they would be a big hit at a Super Bowl Party. And this is one of those dishes that you could actually just start with the basic layers of tortilla chips, nacho meat, cheese, lettuce, and tomato, and then set out bowls of all the other stuff so party goers could load up on the rest of the stuff that they want. My family isn’t a big fan of really super-duper spicy foods, so some of the hot peppers could be left as an option. But it sure looks pretty, doesn’t it? Hmm . . .we just might make this on Super Bowl Sunday anyway and the cuddle up on the couch to watch some sappy Hallmark movie. How about you? So whether you are having a Super Bowl Party or watching a sappy Hallmark movie, if you want to try out these Loaded Nachos, pop on over to the Country Living website.

Super Bowl Mason Jars

from Ginger Snap Crafts

I don’t think there has ever been anything invented in the history of humanity that is as versatile as these amazing Mason jars! You can dress them up and decorate them for any occasion whatever, or you can use them just they way they come out of the box (or off the shelf in the back of the basement) for so many different purposes. So even though we won’t be decorating for the Super Bowl, I still thought these decorated Mason jars are so cute! They actually are perfect for a picnic or even for every day use for holding silverware, straws, or other kitchen utensils. We have been using a bunch of them for regular ol’ drinking glasses since our Fashion and Lifestyle Diva Daughter saw them used that way on some really “cute” blog somewhere. So now I guess we’re into “cute” and “adorable” around here. Check out the complete tutorial for making these “cute” Football Inspired Mason Jars at the Ginger Snap Crafts blog.

Cheddar Popovers

from Country Living

Here’s another recipe that my family would love anytime of the day or night . . . no party required! I used to make popovers a long time ago, but haven’t in several years. They are really yummy with a chicken or turkey gravy over the top with cut up chunks of meat and a few veggies tossed in. Kind of like individual upside down chicken pot pies. And because of the way they bake, with a big hole right in the middle, they are perfect for adding cheddar cheese, or pretty much anything else you might like. The dough for popovers (at least the ones I used to make) isn’t sweet, but is rather a delicate, almost bland, flavor . . . but the texture is really amazing . . . you can add a wide variety of toppings or fillings depending on what you are wanting to create. Sweet, spicy, tangy, savory – it all works with popovers! You can find this recipe for Cheddar Popovers, and tons of other Super Bowl Party ideas, on the Country Living website.

and then there’s me . . . .

Cup of tea in Winter

This is most likely what I will be doing on Super Bowl Sunday. Reading a book or watching a movie, wrapped up in a fuzzy blanket by the fireplace, sipping a cup of tea or hot cocoa. I started reading a book called Operation Paperclip which tells about the United States bringing Nazi scientists into our country after World War 2 so they could teach our scientists some of their discoveries. I met an older gentleman in our town a couple of years ago who loaned me the book (I started it back then, but then got distracted when we moved, and I’m just now getting back to it), and he told me that he was part of that (then) secret operation of the US government. That’s exactly how boring I am! Reading history books about Nazis, and spies, and secret government programs, and the second World War. Don’t judge me please. I’m just a boring, stay-at-home girl. But I am pretty good at making stuff in my sewing room, so I’m sure there will be another blog post about something that I actually know something about. Hope you all have a fun Super Bowl Party . . . or whatever it is you are actually going to do on that day. Please tell me I’m not alone.
