We’ve been working on several home improvement projects over the past couple of years, and this spring we have even more projects that we want to complete, both inside and out in the yard and garden. Although we’ve made a lot of progress with painting, new flooring, landscaping, and general cleaning up of old flower beds, there are still so many things we want to tackle this year. For this week’s Home Matters Linky Party #232 we are rounding up creative inspiration for home improvement tips . . . which is perfect for our little family! #HomeImprovement #HomeDIY #HomeMattersParty
One of the fun projects I want to tackle (hopefully soon!) is to build a couple of the window frame flower boxes for the side of our storage shed (or the Man Cave as it is sometimes called). My sweet hubby repainted it last summer and cleaned up all around it where the weeds had taken over. It is a beautiful blue color and I can’t wait to put up those antique window frames that have been sitting in the garage for the past couple of years, with some bright red and white impatiens bursting out of the boxes that I will be attaching to them.
Here’s another version of the window frame flower boxes . . .
And then another project I’ve made progress on is the entryway from our deck. We also need to resurface part of the deck this year, as well as replace some of the deck boards and then repaint everything. That will be probably the biggest job of the summer! We painted the walls in the entryway a light gray with white trim at the same time that we painted the living room. Then we removed the doors from the coat closet, painted the walls inside a teal blue / green with white trim. We have a black bench inside and some little turquoise totes for hats, gloves, garden gloves, and other miscellaneous stuff.
BUT . . . I still want to “jazz it up” a bit, so when I found the images of the wall display over the bench, I just couldn’t resist the idea of doing something like that in our entry! I’ve got a bunch of stuff that I can create this kind of wall display, but I’m kind of moving more in the direction of fewer things so probably won’t make a display that is quite this extravagant.
And since we still have a bunch of kiddos who come flying through that door every day after school (or very soon, after playing outside or all kinds of other summer activities), the entryway with the hooks for backpacks and jackets, along with the individual totes underneath for all their other “junk,” is quite appealing to me. And I love the display of family photos up on the shelf, out of the way of all the activity in that part of the house.
I’m really excited about getting some of these projects started . . . . and hopefully, FINISHED, before the end of summer. The challenge right now, however, is deciding where to begin. I guess on the days when we can get outside in good weather, will be a determining factor. And on other days, when it is raining or when it gets so hot that it’s difficult to breathe, we will work on the inside projects. There’s always something to fix up, paint or repair, when you are a homeowner. I hope you can join us this week for the Home Matters Linky Party #232 and link up your latest blog post. See you there!
