Right about this time very year, just as we are almost ready for Christmas, I begin to think about what we will do after the hustle and bustle of the holidays. You know, after all of the celebrations, Christmas cookies, candy, ornaments, and gifts are finished and things are tidied up a bit. We’ve had so much fun with Christmas preparations that the month of January begins to look rather bleak, dreary, and . . . . cold. Of course, it is cold, but it doesn’t have to be dreary and bleak!
Since I’ve always loved the little Christmas villages that are lined up on the fireplace mantle, I thought it would be fun to take all that cheerful home decor right on into the New Year. When I started thinking about making a little DIY winter village, and began to see if anyone else had already come up with a bit of crafty creativity to make some adorable little cottages, here’s what I discovered!
There are as many different ways to create a tiny DIY winter village, that you could do just about anything you want. It could be created from little cardboard boxes, or empty tissue boxes, or folded cardstock, or construction paper, or leftover pieces of cardboard that come in just about every gift box under your Christmas tree. Otherwise, all those pieces of cardboard would just be tossed into the recycle bin, right?
If you are beginning to think about “after the holidays” and wondering how to keep that joyful, festive atmosphere in your home during the cold, snowy, and sometimes gray days of January and February, why not design and create your own charming DIY winter village? You can make as many little cottages or as few as you want or need . . . just be sure to have fun! This is a perfect DIY project to do with the kids or grandkids, too.
