Yesterday the sun was shining and it was warm enough that I went to the grocery store wearing my spring jacket. Even though it was still a bit windy out there, the sunshine made it much nicer to head out to run a few errands than the past several weeks have been. On Saturday we went out and it was pouring down rain. It was cold and blustery, gray and gloomy. So to see the sunshine yesterday put me in a pretty happy mood!
After stopping at the post office, the bank, and the grocery store, I decided to pop into the Dollar Store to see if they had any spring “stuff” that I could pick up to make a new wreath for our front door. The first place I stopped (which was my favorite dollar store in our little town) was closing . . . the shelves were almost bare and the sign in the window said, “CLOSING! Everything must go!” The ladies behind the counter told me they would be closing for good in two weeks. So I thought, well, why not see what they still had on the shelves. But, as I said, the shelves were really almost bare. Nothing to see there!
So then I drove over to one of the other dollar stores to see what I could find for spring. Hmmmm . . . . the building was empty and the notice said, “We’ve Moved! Visit us down on Main Street.” I got back in the car and drove a couple of blocks to the new dollar store hoping that I would find some fun stuff there. Oh, good grief! It was a total mess! Everything was so disorganized and messy I could barely walk through the aisles. I’m sure that once they get situated, it will be much better, but I just couldn’t handle all that chaos. Off I went to try the last dollar store in our little town.
I’m happy to report that at least one of the dollar stores in our town is functioning normally – but I still didn’t find anything that I could use to create a fun wreath or other spring decor item for our porch. Maybe it isn’t spring yet, I thought. No one seems to have much spring stuff out, so perhaps I’m too early this year. That would be a new problem to have! I know, I thought, I’ll check the hardware store. They always have lovely seasonal decor (although it is really quite a bit more expensive than the dollar stores, but still, they do have nice wreaths for the different seasons).
At the hardware store they were clearly getting ready for spring – but no wreaths yet. By that time I was tired of shopping (or driving and looking and not finding what I was looking for), and it was almost supper time so I just decided to go home. I’ll check again this weekend. In the meantime, I was just scrolling through some home and family sites online and I was reminded that a “wreath” doesn’t actually have to be a “wreath” to look pretty on my front door. I might have to make my own “wreath” or something else this year. What do you think? Do you put a pretty wreath on your front door and change it with the seasons? Here are some of the ideas I found that have inspired me to try making something myself for our front door. Which one should I try? Let me know what you think! Hope you are having a good spring . . . . or whatever it is these days!
