This year our Easter celebration will be really special! We are normally home, just the four of us, for a quiet day together. We always have a traditional Easter dinner, mostly because that’s just what we’ve always done so it has become something that we all look forward to. But also because my hubby loves to cook so he has great fun putting the ham in the oven and making some of the other dishes that have become part of our annual spring tradition. But this year we will have a few more family members joining us, so I decided to round up a few old and new Easter dinner recipes to share with your for this week’s Home Matters Linky Party #227. #Easter #EasterDinner #EasterDecor #HomeMatters
On Easter weekend our youngest son and his family will be traveling from Virginia to stay with us for a few weeks while he gets settled into his new job not too far from our house. They should arrive on Saturday afternoon, so we are really looking forward to having them all here. Although we have always emphasized the real reason that we celebrate Easter in our family, it is fun to be a bit festive with special foods for Easter dinner as well as carefully hidden colored eggs and small baskets of candy.
What are some of your family’s Easter traditions?
Since the three grandkids who will be staying with us are younger than our girls (I know, it’s an interesting story how we have kids and grandkids that are almost the same age!), we wanted to make up some small Easter baskets and even color eggs with them. The plan is to do the eggs on Saturday evening and have something really quick and easy for supper, like pizza, macaroni and cheese, or hamburgers.
Then Sunday we will have our time in the morning for a special Easter breakfast before church, and then in the afternoon we will have all of the traditional dishes that our kids have come to expect on this holiday. Of course, we will have ham and scalloped potatoes, probably green bean casserole since everyone loves it and ask for it for every holiday dinner. I usually make hot cross buns the week of Easter so we will have those as well.
I found a new recipe for crock pot cheddar creamed corn that sounds like it would go really well with everything else, and when I came across the lemon coconut cake recipe, I decided that would be a perfect dessert to celebrate the arrival of spring.
Through all of our traditions and celebrations, we never forget that our family remembers the life, death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ which is the real reason we celebrate on this holiday. It is a good thing to establish traditions with our family. It is something that they remember long after they are grown up and have children of their own. Which is one of the reasons THIS Easter will be so special for our family! The kids and the grandkids, many of them all together in Mama’s kitchen will be a truly joyous occasion.
How about you? What does your family do for Easter? Do you have any special traditions? I would love to hear about your family celebration. I hope you can join us this week for the Home Matters Linky Party #227 as we celebrate Easter. See you there,
