Welcome to 2018! If you have been reading my blog for any time at all, you probably know that in addition to my creative design work at Vintage Mama’s Cottage, I am also the sr. editor of RUBY magazine, an online and print publication featuring inspirational articles, short stories, poetry, book reviews, craft tutorials, recipes, and lots of other family-friendly content.
RUBY magazine was started in late 2009 – early 2010 at a time when I was no longer working away from home (as a result of the financial collapse, the bank where I was working closed its branches in our town), and I was wondering what God had next for me. I was quite happy to be at home with our girls who were 7 and 9 years old at the time, so I wasn’t really looking for a “JOB” when I was contacted by the woman who originally started the Ruby Women publication.
At the time, Ruby Women was created and sent out as a PDF document to several friends and family members of the original creator, but she was no longer able to maintain the work of the magazine because of health concerns. She asked me if I would be interested in helping her with the magazine, and I agreed. It wasn’t long after that, however, that she emailed me to let me know that she was no longer able to do any of the work so she was just going to let the project go . . . unless I would be interested in taking it over. And that’s how RUBY magazine became part of my life!
Over the past almost 10 years, RUBY magazine has evolved and grown to the point that we are now featuring writers from all across America as well as from other English-speaking countries all around the world. We have over 125 writers who have contributed to RUBY magazine, with 20 – 15 writers featured in each monthly issue. Although we are not able to offer monetary compensation to our writers, we work very hard to promote all of our writers through our social media pages, and offer lots of promotional opportunities as well.
In August 2016 we began offering RUBY magazine as a print publication for our readers who had been requesting this option for quite some time. Every month RUBY magazine is available for purchase on Amazon, and the digital document is always available to read online for free.
As we look forward to 2018, RUBY magazine remains committed to providing resources for families, as well as a platform for Christian women to tell their stories, share their writing, and connect with one another in our online community. If you would like information about RUBY magazine, please visit the RUBY blog at http://www.rubyforwomen.com or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org I would love to hear from you!
As for Vintage Mama’s Cottage in 2018 . . . . well, it’s been a challenging autumn and winter so far following the flood in our laundry room back in October, but we are finally beginning to get things back to normal. It took a really long time to get all of the mess cleaned up and the repairs completed (final repairs were finished three days before Christmas!), and the really cold weather has not helped this past couple of weeks, but we’re making a bit of progress every day. It won’t be long and I’ll be back in my studio creating fun new designs to share with you!
If you love some of the “old-fashioned” and traditional homemaking arts, then you are in the right place! Both Vintage Mama’s Cottage and RUBY magazine will be focused on helping you on your journey as you care for your home and family and rediscover traditional “home arts.” Hope to see you often!
