As we’ve been working on painting and updating our home, one of the things that our oldest daughter keeps reminding us is that things around here are just kind of “old fashioned.” And she is right. For one thing, being Vintage Mama, I LIKE old, vintage, and retro stuff. However . . . . when we moved into this house (almost) two years ago, we realized that the paint colors and wallpaper choices were really quite nice, once upon a time.
Really, everything is so “cute” and “country,” which I don’t mind but I will admit it is getting rather “tired” looking. So we are updating and refreshing and making an effort to be brighter, less fuss and ruffles, and more modern. But of course that means I need advice from my 16-year-old to get a clue what that means. Since I have always been good at making a home rather cozy and comfy using whatever I had available to me, I haven’t been well-versed in the changing styles of home decor. I just know what I like and that’s been good enough for me!
I will admit, however, that a fresher, brighter, and simpler look for our home is appealing to me. And so we begin . . . .

One of the things that our fashion and decorating diva really likes is the simple sayings that seem to be everywhere these days, in all forms of display, whether it be on walls or cell phone screens or PC wallpapers. She found a picture of that she liked in which there were two black frames with plain white background and just four words: “be still, my soul.” That’s all just black letters on a white background, with black frames. Two of them, one with the words “be still,” and the other one with the words “my soul.” She loved it!
So we are working on getting those two framed sayings for her bedroom – but while she was working on getting one of her artist friends to create this masterpiece for her, I thought it would be fun to play around with creating a printable (with a bit more color for my preference!) with that saying, since I have found myself needing to be reminded recently to slow down, stop stressing about the fact that I’ve had this struggle with my health since the beginning of the year, and just BE STILL for a while.
Here’s the one I came up with and it is free for you to use, just in case you need to be reminded, too, that it is OK to be still, slow down, and take a minute to breathe. I’m also working on getting a few of my designs framed and available in my Etsy shop, so I’ll be sure to post that when they are ready. OK for now, I’m off to work on some other stuff – my art journal is taking over my life these days, and it’s just about time to see if anyone else is interested in doing an Art Journal Journey or something like that. Still working on that idea! For now, I hope you can join us for the Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop and Linky Party this week. I love seeing what everyone shares with us at the party!
