A few weeks ago, as I was in the process of updating my blog at mamas*little*treasures (which I have had up and running since around 2007), everything suddenly locked up and I could not access my dashboard. There was an error message, but you know that those things are written in “computereze” and us normal people have no clue what it means when it tells me: “Fatal Error.” That sounds pretty serious to me, so I tried to decipher the rest of the message: “Call to undefined function wp_raise_memory_limit() in /home/content/30/5893330/html/mamastreasures/wp-admin/admin.php on line 141.”
I thought that perhaps the system was down for update, or something relatively harmless, so I decided to work on something else for a while and then check back later. But later it still gave me the same error message when I tried to access the dashboard to add a new post. The next day it was the same error message, and since I was busy with a few other projects, I had to put my blog on the back burner, so to speak.
A couple of days later, when I could finally get back to the blog, that same error message was still showing up so I decided to call the hosting company to see if they could help me. Not really, they said, because I had been using the same template for a really long time (even though I had updated it regularly), that it simply was outdated and there was nothing they could do to unlock it. The best thing to do, they said, was to start all over with a new blog. Really? Yes, really.
That’s what I’ve been working on for the past month, in between all of my other responsibilities, and I’m still not happy with the current state of affairs, but at least I can get back to blogging again. So today is the beginning of my new blogging adventure. I’m so grateful to Katherine and all of the other hostesses who have been so patient with me as I’ve been trying to navigate this often-times bumpy road of blogging, but I’m learning lots of new stuff and making some much-needed changes that I’ve been wanting to do for some time now.
In case this kind of thing ever happens to you, just remember that a fresh start is frequently a good thing, and since I didn’t actually “lose” anything from my old blog I can move over the stuff I want to keep and then continue to rebuild here in my new little corner of the blogosphere. I hope you will consider stopping back once in a while to see what I’m up to, because I have lots of plans and projects for this new year and I want to share them with you all. Thanks for participating in the Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop and Linky Party . . . . I’ll do my best to get around to visit some of you this week in between my other writing projects, sewing projects, and journaling.
Vintage Mama’s Cottage is going to be a place where you can find creative inspiration that will be a blessing to you as you live out your God-given purpose in your home and family. I hope you will join me on this new journey!
